Data and statistics — Lotto Draws lottery analysis

About Lotto Draws

What Is Lotto Draws?

Lotto Draws is an independent, free online platform dedicated to providing comprehensive statistical analysis and historical drawing data for the major U.S. lotteries: Powerball, Mega Millions, Millionaire For Life, Take 5, and New York Lotto. We also archive the Cash4Life history following its 2026 discontinuation. Every drawing, every number, every frequency — pulled from official government data and presented in plain English (and Spanish).

Whether you're a casual player curious about which numbers come up most often, a statistics enthusiast exploring probability patterns, a journalist researching lottery trends, or simply someone who enjoys browsing historical results, Lotto Draws is built for you.

Who's Behind This Site?

Lotto Draws is built and maintained by a small, independent team of software engineers and statistics enthusiasts based in the United States. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any state lottery, the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), Powerball, Mega Millions, or any commercial lottery retailer. The site is supported by display advertising, and that's it — we don't sell tickets, run contests, offer predictions, or accept paid placements in our analysis or editorial content.

We started Lotto Draws because the existing landscape of lottery-data sites was a mix of ad-choked spam, unreliable number generators, and prediction scams. We wanted a site we'd actually want to use ourselves: fast, honest, statistically rigorous, bilingual, and free. That's what we've built.

Editorial Standards

We take the accuracy of what we publish seriously. Our editorial standards are simple but strictly applied:

  • Government data only. Every drawing result displayed on Lotto Draws comes from the official New York State Open Data portal, updated automatically after each drawing. We don't crawl third-party sites, don't rely on user submissions, and don't "estimate" missing data.
  • No predictions, ever. We publish frequency and pattern data because it's interesting, but we are unambiguous that past results cannot predict future drawings. We do not sell, recommend, or link to any paid prediction service.
  • Transparent methodology. We describe exactly how every statistic is calculated, which drawings are included in each analysis, and why. If a game changed format, we say so and restrict analysis to the current format.
  • Corrections policy. If we publish something wrong, we fix it and note the correction. Email hello@lottodraws.io or use our Contact page to report any issue.
  • Responsible gambling framing. Every article, tool, and analysis page on Lotto Draws treats lottery play as entertainment, not investment. We link to the NCPG helpline on every page and never encourage play beyond safe budget limits.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: make lottery data accessible, understandable, and useful for everyone. The lottery industry generates billions of dollars in revenue each year, yet finding reliable, well-presented statistical breakdowns has traditionally been difficult or expensive. We set out to change that by building a platform that:

  • Provides up-to-date results automatically fetched twice daily after every drawing
  • Offers detailed frequency analysis for main numbers and bonus balls
  • Identifies hot and cold numbers based on historical appearance rates
  • Presents data in clear visualizations that anyone can understand
  • Is available in both English and Spanish
  • Remains completely free with no sign-up, no paywalls, no newsletter ransoms

Our Data Source

Accuracy is the foundation of everything we do. All lottery drawing data on Lotto Draws is sourced directly from the New York State Open Data portal, a publicly accessible government database maintained by the State of New York. NY State participates in both the Powerball and Mega Millions multi-state games and publishes drawing data via a standardized Socrata Open Data API (SODA) feed. Because it's an official government source, our data is verifiable, reliable, and matches what you'd see on state lottery websites.

Our system automatically checks for new drawing results twice daily — once shortly after midnight Eastern Time and again in the morning — so you always have access to the latest data. When new results are published by the state, they typically appear on our site within hours of the official drawing.

Methodology

Our analysis covers several key areas designed to give you a complete picture of historical lottery patterns:

  • Number Frequency Analysis: We count how many times each number has been drawn across all recorded drawings, for both main numbers and bonus balls (Powerball/Mega Ball). This helps identify which numbers appear more or less frequently than average.
  • Hot & Cold Numbers: Numbers drawn significantly more than average are labeled “hot,” while those drawn less frequently are “cold.” These designations are based purely on historical frequency, not on any predictive model. See our full explainer on what frequency analysis can and cannot tell you.
  • Odd/Even & Range Analysis: We analyze the distribution of odd versus even numbers and examine how numbers fall across different ranges (1–10, 11–20, etc.) to reveal common distribution patterns.
  • Consecutive Number Patterns: We track how often consecutive numbers (like 14 and 15) appear together in the same drawing.
  • Rule Change Awareness: Both Powerball and Mega Millions have changed their number pools over the years. Our analysis accounts for these changes by focusing on drawings under the current game format to ensure relevance.

Free Tools We Built

In addition to analysis pages, we maintain four free tools for lottery players:

  • Lottery Tax Calculator: Federal + state + local take-home estimation for any jackpot in any state.
  • Odds Calculator: Compare your real odds of winning at each prize tier across all games.
  • Number Generator: Random, Balanced, or Avoid-Birthday modes for generating smart combinations.
  • Jackpot Tracker: Current jackpot totals and historical record holders.

Important Disclaimer

Lotto Draws is for entertainment and informational purposes only. Lottery drawings are random events, and past results do not predict future outcomes. We do not sell lottery tickets, provide predictions, or guarantee any results. Please play responsibly and within your means. For more details, read our full disclaimer.

Technology

Lotto Draws is built with modern, reliable technology to ensure fast load times and accurate data processing. Our backend uses Python with FastAPI for high-performance API handling, PostgreSQL for robust data storage, APScheduler for automated twice-daily data fetches, and server-side Jinja2 templating with Tailwind CSS for fast, accessible, mobile-first rendering. Charts are rendered with Plotly. The site is hosted on Railway's global infrastructure.
